This bill amends Alaska's medical assistance eligibility criteria to include family planning services for individuals of child-bearing age who are not pregnant and whose household income does not exceed 225 percent of the federal poverty line. Specifically, it adds family planning services and supplies to the list of optional services that the Department of Health may offer under AS 47.07.030(b), while removing the provision for reasonable transportation to and from medical care.
Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Health to amend and submit the state plan for medical assistance coverage to the federal government for approval to implement these changes. The act will only take effect if the United States Department of Health and Human Services approves the amendments or determines that approval is not necessary, with a conditional effective date set for January 1, 2026. The commissioner of health is tasked with notifying the revisor of statutes once the necessary federal approval is obtained.
