This bill amends Alaska's education law by introducing a new section, AS 14.03.065, which establishes maximum classroom sizes for public schools. Specifically, it sets limits of 23 students for grades K-3, 26 for grades 4-8, and 30 for grades 9-12, with the exception of certain courses such as art and physical education. Notably, these limits do not apply to school districts with an average daily membership of 35,000 or less from the previous school year. Additionally, the bill mandates that school districts notify parents or guardians by November 30 and February 1 each year about classroom size requirements, average classroom sizes, and the number of students in their child's classroom.

Furthermore, the bill allows for exceptions to the maximum classroom sizes if the excess is due to students transferring to the school after the first day of the term. The effective date for this legislation is set for July 1, 2026.
