This bill amends existing laws regarding the terms of office for municipal school board members in Alaska. It introduces a new subsection to AS 14.12.050, allowing the governing body of a municipality to alter the terms of office for school board members through an ordinance. Additionally, it modifies AS 29.20.300(a) to specify that school board members are elected for three-year terms, with the possibility of altering these terms as outlined in the newly added subsection (c).

The bill also clarifies that members of the school board are elected at large unless a different election method is approved by voters. The changes aim to provide municipalities with greater flexibility in determining the terms of office for their school board members. The Act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
