This bill mandates that each school district in Alaska adopt specific policies regarding the management of head lice and bacterial conjunctivitis in public schools. Under the new provisions, if a student is found with live head lice, they may remain in the classroom until the end of the school day. However, they cannot return to class until a qualified individual, such as a school nurse or a designated health care provider, has confirmed the absence of live head lice. The school is also required to provide the student's parent or guardian with treatment information and notify the parents of other students in the classroom while ensuring privacy.

For bacterial conjunctivitis, the bill stipulates that students diagnosed with the condition must leave the classroom immediately and cannot return until they have started medical treatment for a specified duration. Similar to the head lice policy, schools must inform the parents or guardians of other students in the classroom about the situation while maintaining privacy. The bill includes a definition of "school district" as per existing law and establishes that the new regulations will take effect 180 days after the initial section of the bill is enacted.
