This bill amends existing laws regarding the terms of office for municipal school board members in Alaska. It introduces a new subsection to AS 14.12.050, allowing the governing body of a municipality to alter the terms of office through an ordinance. Additionally, it modifies AS 29.20.300(a) to specify that school board members are elected for three-year terms, with the possibility of different election methods if approved by voters. A new subsection (c) is also added to AS 29.20.300, which permits the governing body to change the terms of office, provided the alteration is approved by voters.

The bill emphasizes local governance by granting municipalities the authority to modify school board terms through ordinances, thereby allowing for greater flexibility in local educational administration. The effective date of the Act is immediate, as stipulated in Section 4.
