This bill amends existing laws regarding the terms of office for municipal school board members and the composition of city councils in second-class cities in Alaska. It allows the governing body of a municipality to alter the terms of office for school board members and city council members through an ordinance. Specifically, it introduces a provision that permits second-class cities with a population of 1,000 or less to establish a council size of not fewer than three members and not more than seven members, elected by the voters at large.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that members of municipal school boards are elected for three-year terms at regular elections, with the option for different election methods if approved by voters. The governing body of a municipality is also granted the authority to change the terms of office for school board members through a voter-approved ordinance. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
