This bill amends Alaska's medical assistance laws to establish continuous eligibility for children under six years of age. Specifically, it mandates that any child under six who is determined eligible for benefits will remain eligible until they reach the age of six. Additionally, the bill modifies the eligibility criteria for individuals aged six to 19, allowing those who are determined eligible to remain covered for up to 11 months or until they turn 19, whichever comes first.

To implement these changes, the Department of Health is required to seek federal approval for necessary amendments to the state Medicaid plan or apply for waivers. The bill includes a conditional effect clause, stating that the provisions will only take effect if the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services approves the required waivers or amendments by July 1, 2027. If approved, the changes will take effect the day after the approval is granted.
