This bill amends Alaska's existing law regarding tuition waivers for spouses and dependents of certain peace officers, firefighters, and members of the armed services. It specifies that individuals enrolled as students in good standing at state-supported educational institutions are entitled to a waiver of undergraduate tuition and fees if they are the spouse or dependent child of a bona fide resident who either died in the line of duty or has been permanently and totally disabled due to their service. The bill introduces new criteria for eligibility, including provisions for dependents of those who have been determined to have a permanent total disability as a result of their service.

Additionally, the bill clarifies the definitions of "dependent child" and "spouse" to include those who were dependents or spouses at the time of the incident leading to the member's permanent total disability.
