The bill amends Alaska's existing law regarding the posting of warning signs for alcoholic beverages. It reduces the number of required warning signs from three to two for holders of various licenses and permits related to the sale and consumption of alcohol. The first sign will now read, "WARNING: Alcohol use during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Alcohol use can cause cancer, including breast and colon cancers." The second sign will inform that an unaccompanied person under 21 years of age who enters the premises in violation of the law may be civilly liable for damages of $1,500, and that providing alcohol to someone under 21 could result in imprisonment and fines.
Additionally, the bill specifies that the signs must be at least 11 inches by 14 inches with lettering at least one-half inch high in contrasting colors. The license or permit holder is required to display the first sign in a conspicuous manner for individuals purchasing or consuming alcohol, while the second sign must be prominently displayed at each entrance to the licensed premises. The changes aim to enhance awareness of the risks associated with alcohol consumption and underage drinking.
