A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing and commending the National Conference of State Legislatures on its 50th
2 anniversary in 2025.
3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
4 WHEREAS the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) was founded in
5 1975 and has evolved during the past half-century to become the premier organization solely
6 dedicated to serving state and territorial legislators and legislative staff; and
7 WHEREAS NCSL was created from the merger of three organizations that served or
8 represented state legislatures and that shared the belief that legislative service is one of
9 democracy's worthiest pursuits; and
10 WHEREAS NCSL is a bipartisan organization with the following three objectives: to
11 advance the effectiveness, independence, and integrity of state legislatures; to foster interstate
12 communication and cooperation; and to ensure state legislatures have a strong, cohesive voice
13 in the federal system; and
14 WHEREAS the nation's state legislatures are laboratories of democracy and have
15 continually shown that state legislatures are the bodies to tackle emerging challenges; and
16 WHEREAS a state legislature is where people from very different backgrounds,

1 representing very different communities, can come together and find common ground; and
2 WHEREAS NCSL has facilitated the exchange of ideas, provided critical research
3 and information, and encouraged a rigorous review of complex issues confronting
4 communities, states, and the nation; and
5 WHEREAS NCSL strives to strengthen the bonds between the nation's state
6 legislatures and the international community;
7 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature recognizes and commends the
8 National Conference of State Legislatures for its superb leadership and its commitment to the
9 legislative institution.
