A RESOLUTION
1 Authorizing a recess by the House of Representatives or Senate for a period of more
2 than three days.
3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
4 WHEREAS the legislature was called into the First Special Session of the Thirty-
5 Third Alaska State Legislature on May 17, 2023, by the Governor; and
6 WHEREAS, during the next few weeks, the finance committees of each house will be
7 conducting extensive hearings on the state budgets; and
8 WHEREAS, during the periods the finance committees of each house are conducting
9 hearings, the presence of the full membership of the Senate or House of Representatives is not
10 required, and daily floor sessions will take time away from careful consideration by the
11 committees of the subject in the Governor's May 17, 2023, proclamation; and
12 WHEREAS art. II, sec. 10, Constitution of the State of Alaska, provides that neither
13 house may adjourn or recess for longer than three days unless the other house concurs; and
14 WHEREAS Rule 52, Uniform Rules of the Alaska State Legislature, provides that
15 adoption of a concurrent resolution by a majority vote of the full membership of each house
16 constitutes concurrence;

1 BE IT RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that the Senate or the House of
2 Representatives may be in recess for more than three days during the First Special Session of
3 the Thirty-Third Alaska State Legislature called by the Governor on May 17, 2023, and that
4 each house concurs in this recess; and be it
5 FURTHER RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that the finance committees
6 of each house continue to meet on the subject in the Governor's May 17, 2023, proclamation
7 during a recess of both houses of the legislature until June 16, 2023.
