2024 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This bill amends AS 37.05.590 to change the amount of filing fees received by the Alaska Court System during the prior
closed fiscal year that may be appropriated to the civil legal services fund from 10% to 25%.
In the Governor's FY2025 request, civil legal services funds are appropriated to the department as a grant to the Alaska
Legal Services Corporation. The current language appropriation in the Governor's request is based on 10% of court filing
fees collected in FY2023. In FY2023 a total of $2,965.0 was collected by the Alaska Court System in civil filing fees; 25% of
that amount is $741.3. In this fiscal note, the additional 15% in out years is projected based on FY2023 revenues.
Existing fund capitalization language and appropriation language for this grant included in the Governor's FY2025 request
would need to be amended to reflect the revised amount.
Grants to named recipients in the operating budget are administered by the Division of Community and Regional Affairs.
