A BILL
FOR AN ACT ENTITLED
1 "An Act relating to an education program about victims of communism."
2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
3 * Section 1. AS 14.07.180 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
4 (p) The department shall develop and approve a social studies program
5 relating to victims of communism for grades six through 12. The program must
6 (1) provide at least 45 minutes of instruction relating to victims of
7 communism and the following leaders:
8 (A) Mao Zedong, The People's Republic of China;
9 (B) Joseph Stalin, former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics;
10 (C) Fidel Castro, Cuba;
11 (D) Vladimir Lenin, former Union of Soviet Socialist
12 Republics;
13 (E) Ho Chi Minh, North Vietnam; and
14 (F) Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela;
15 (2) include topics on how the victims of communism suffered under

1 the regimes listed in (1)(A) - (F) of this subsection through suppression of speech,
2 poverty, starvation, imprisonment, migration, and systemic lethal violence against
3 civilians; and
4 (3) provide the instruction on November 7 of each year, or as close as
5 practicable to November 7.
