FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. SB 185
2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
The legislation amends AS 23.10.070 Exemptions from minimum wage to limit the exemptions of minimum wage as
prescribed in AS 23.10.050 23.10.150 to individuals under 18 years of age, who are temporarily employed by a nonprofit
organization (under 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3)), student learners and apprentices. Any proposal to exempt minimum wage must
be approved by the Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The legislation removes the exemption for individuals whose earning capacity is impaired by physical or mental deficiency,
age or injury.
The department anticipates zero fiscal impact.
