FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. CSHB 53(MLV) AM(EFD ADD)
2022 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This bill amends AS 14.03.080, Right to attend school, by adding a new subsection (g) that would require a school district
to consider a student whose parent or guardian is a member of the armed forces as a resident and admit the student to a
public school. The parent or guardian would be required to provide to the school district written proof of residence on an
official document within ten days after the arrival date stated in the military orders. This legislation also provides
definitions of a "guardian," "military installation," and "residence."
The bill takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
There is no fiscal impact to the Department of Education and Early Development under this bill.
