FISCAL NOTE ANALYSIS
STATE OF ALASKA BILL NO. HB 142
2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Analysis
This bill amends AS 18.65.670 relating to the Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) program by including Alaska Native
organizations as entities eligible to receive grant funds from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to participate in and
administer the VPSO program within their region, and defines "Alaska Native organization" as an organization listed under
AS 47.27.070(a).
Under AS 18.65.670(b) funds are appropriated to DPS to provide grants to eligible entities for village public safety officers.
All but two of the organizations listed under AS 47.27.020(a) currently receive VPSO grants. Though this bill would expand
the organizations eligible to participate in the VPSO program, DPS does not anticipate a fiscal impact as a direct result of its
passage. Therefore, a zero fiscal note is being submitted.
